Hi, my name is Mike Evans, I am retired from full time employment but now working to improve my level of Health and Fitness for a better quality of life.
I have had a reasonably healthy and active life but in recent years had a serious problem with arthritis in both my knees and decided to look for a natural treatment to reduce pain and increase movement.
After seeking professional advice I was advised to do load bearing exercises to build muscle around my knees and strengthen my bones. Now a few years on I have an improved level of fitness and enjoy cycling, hill walking, weight training, circuit training and many more leisure activities – all in moderation as the problem can be aggravated with over use.
I must admit it was not easy at the start due to the pain and lack of movement but with regular progressive exercise, improvement started to show. The process was slow but was well worth the effort as now with extra workouts I feel in many ways much younger than my actual age – which goes to prove that age is not a number.
There is no cure but by combining exercise with leisure activities the problem is contained and it is now possible for me to enjoy retirement to the full without the need for painkillers.
As with any illness or injury a Doctor must be consulted before starting an exercise programme. In my case the various original exercises were recommended by the hospital and may not be suitable in similar or more serious conditions.
